About
Marcel Pérez grew up in Miami, which means he came of age loud, sweaty, and surrounded by people who treat coffee like a love language. He's a 1st generation Cuban-Peruvian American and a film producer based in Los Angeles — and he's spent his career proving that stories from the margins can also be epic, strange, funny, and a little monstrous.
His feature La Leyenda Negra premiered at Sundance 2020 and found distribution through HBO Max and HBO Latino, earning nominations for the John Cassavetes Spirit Award and the GLAAD Media Award. He's produced three features total, won the BlackStar Pitch grant from WarnerMedia OneFifty, received a NALIP grant for short film work, and in 2025 was selected as a PGA Create Fellow for his feature in development, The Girl who Cried Wolf.
Before film, he studied mechanical engineering and robotics. He performs improv at UCB, produces the comedy podcast Witch, Yes! (Apple · Spotify), and will always make you a cafecito.
